South Asian Bridal Inspiration

As soon as I heard the founder of AK Makeup Anna Karapetayan would be showcasing some of her signature South Asian bridal hairstyles I knew I had to attend The South Asian bridal beauty workshop! Anna is renowned for her polished hairstyles and diverse skill set that allows her to create beautiful bridal beauty on women of all ethnicities and cultures. I felt extremely fortunate to be a part of Anna's sold out workshop as it will be her last for a while as she awaits the birth of her first child.

Anna demonstrated two different South Asian bridal hairstyles at the workshop the first style (see photo below) is one of her favourite and most requested styles a luxurious side braid draped and decorated with jasmine flowers. In the workshop, Anna shared great tips and advice on how to achieve the glossy flawless finishes that are evident in every Instagram picture she posts!

Some great advice I took from the day was her emphasis on educating her brides on how important their hair preparation in the 24 hours leading up to their event is. Her brides receive detailed instructions about the hair preparation required to achieve the optimum results! With all the excitement the night before the wedding hair prep can be the last thing on your bride's mind. From a stylists perspective trying to achieve the perfect style on wet or unclean hair can be difficult, to say the least!

Educating and explaining to the bride about the importance of hair preparation and providing more specific instructions about the limitations that wet, oily or unprepared hair could potentially have on their wedding day hairstyles is advice that really resonated with me and I will definitely be updating Bridal Hair Collective's preparation guide for all our 2016 brides to be!

The South Asian bridal beauty workshop was presented by Elevating Artists.

The Pastel Dress Party Toronto

We were extremely excited to be a part of The Pastel Dress party's first ever boutique wedding show at theGladstone Hotel last month.
The "party for a cause" event raised awareness for breast cancer whilst immersing guests in Fashion, Beauty and all thing's Bridal. I was among some of Toronto's leading vendors nestled among whimsical lanterns, flowers and gorgeous young ladies modelling The Pastel Dress Party's collection of evening gowns and bridal wear.

Bride to be's and their girlfriends were treated to Makeup touch up’s by Murale making them photo ready as they stepped into the professional selfie photo booths that were on hand! The event was also an opportunity to see The Pastel Dress Party’s newest collection of bridesmaid attire up close and personal, my favourite was their Kimmy Skirt a Tule Tutu skirt available in 27 gorgeous colours, I think i may just order one myself! The night came to a close with guest's feasting on Pink Macaroons and Cotton candy whilst placing bids in the silent auction to hopefully take home a statement piece from Drama Queen or a Michelle Benjamin necklace.

The Pastel Dress Party put on a a fantastic "Party for a cause" with all proceeds going to The Breast Cancer Society of Canada, we hope this is the first of many wedding shows to come!

I loved styling the locks of these talented and fun loving boss ladies Janny and Karen co-founders of The Pastel Dress Party.

Bridesmaid Hair Inspiration: Garden Party

Soft Whimsical hair is a trend that I can't get enough of! The undone elegance of twists, braids, and barely-there curls are the perfect hairstyle for the modern day bridesmaid. I recently attended a workshop in Chicago with one of my favourite hairstylists Stephanie Brinkerhoff to learn some of her trademark looks that can be found on countless bride to be’s Pinterest boards!

Bridal Hair Inspiration: Accessories

Bridal hair accessories are extremely popular right now with many online stores and Esty designers making trendy wearable and affordable hair accessories. Adding the right embellishment to your hair will often showcase intricate detailing in the hairstyle and can complement other features of your gown and overall look. I highly recommend all my brunette brides to consider adding hair accessories to their bridal hair, as darker hair often does not show fine detail in photos. By adding an accessory you will add contrast and highlight the detail in the hair design.

These are some of my favourite bridal hair embellishments for 2015...

A Glimpse at New York Bridal Fashion Week Spring 2015

New York Bridal Fashion week was full of pure elegance showcasing fresh new styles while still reinventing some old favourites. The runways featured embroidered overlays, sequinned detailing with lace, silk organza, and traditional tulle.

Designers such as Oscar de la Renta, Marchesa, and Reem Acra did not disappoint with an array of bridal wear from classic ball gowns to beach worthy bridal gowns.

The runways were adorned with crystal headbands, pearl necklaces, and dramatic veils,
while light blossom crowns and cross-body wreaths all ensured true romance was never far away.

Although I love the fashion, today I am going to share my favourite bridal hair and makeup looks from the Spring Bridal Fashion Week.

Oscar de la Renta

Soft middle parts adorned with crystal hair bands and light blossom crowns was a lesson in classic elegance.

Carolina Herrera

Elegantly sweep hair and a simple makeup look by Bobbie Brown had an old Hollywood feel.

Dreamy twists and knots had us dreaming of true romance.

Monique Lhuillier

The sleek Ballerina bun never disappoints.

I can't wait to try these wearable bridal hairstyles on our 2015 Bridal Hair Collective brides.

Bridal Hair Trends 2015

I am so excited to have had a little extra time over the holidays to review some of the hot bridal hair trends for 2015 brides and can't wait to share with you some of my favourite looks and the biggest hair trends I spotted including Jennifer Behr luxury hair accessories and a different take on the floral crown!

1. Pretty Little Blooms

Gone are the days of the big blooms it is now time to adorn your hair with pretty little daisies, babies breath and wildflowers.

2. Classically Sleek

The low bun a long-standing classic, worn with a sleek finish and detailed design creates a strong look for a chic bride or can be paired with a jewelled headband for a hopelessly romantic look too.

3. Crown and Glory

The floral crown is still popular with the queen bee brides and does not seem to be going anywhere! Though I am excited to see the inclusion of gorgeous glided accessories and crowns from the likes of Jennifer Berhr.

4. Adorned with Braids

Whichever way you like to wear them....Halo braids, French plaits, Dutch braids, braided buns, and fishtail plaits this is a long-lasting hair trend that’s not going anywhere in 2015.

So will you be sporting any of these bridal hair trends for your 2015 wedding?
