The biggest bridal trends for spring/summer 2018? Bold up-dos, dramatic veils , tiny blooms, OTT jewellery, ball gowns, capes and so much more... From overstated accessories to minimalist waves this seasons bridal trends have left me  only wanting more! These are a few of my favourites:

Floral Hair Accessories

Move over flower crowns and oversized blooms its all about the barley-there florals in your hair this season, And if you still can't part with the idea of an oversized crown consider the baby's breath wreath the new flower crown.

Gone are the days of less is more it's the more is more this season with feathered headpieces being teamed with floral veils and tassel earrings, there is nothing understated about this look!

Adorned up-dos

Bold up-dos it is the season of the up-do with show stopping beehives, adorned with individual pearls and bold lips.

 Monique Lhuillier

Texturized chignons

There is always a place for minimalist bridal hair and this season brings a modern twist to the classic chignon. Middle parts with lived in texture brings a fresh modern feel to this effortless look, that is perfect for the "non-bridal up-do".

Hair worn down in natural waves (think beach waves) kept flat at the crown, with curls starting at the temples to create a lived in texture. Adorn this look with a headband or embellished veil.

Boho Elopement Inspiration

I have been impatiently waiting to share this dreamy collaboration filled with rose quartz crystals and boho accents since the moment it was shot back in April. Captured in one of my favourite locations in Toronto The Great Hall, with its impeccable natural lighting,  white walls and art deco accents this space is a blank canvas waiting to be transformed.  Working with a group of industry talents like this boho dreams were destined to be created.

The shoot had  many layers to get excited about beginning with an  intimate boudoir session with our bride-to-be wearing a gorgeous bespoke bridal robe and tussled waves it made me wonder why I didn't make time for getting ready pictures like this on my own wedding day!

I always like to have a plan in place for the hairstyle when working on a styled shoot however when  I arrived on set I was completely inspired by all the props from Turkish rugs to a floral anklet, and that was before I saw the head piece I would be working with! I am a big believer of less is often more when it comes to hair and  I wanted to add a layer to the hairstyle that connected the movement and structure of the hair piece to the hairstyle and the playfulness of both outfits.

Spring Inspired Styled Shoot

Styled shoots are such a wonderful opportunity for local creatives to get together behind one concept to express their creativity and to push each other into new creative spaces that aren't always practical or available when working with our own clients. The Spring inspired styled shoot brought together many talented women that I have admired from a far and only dreamed of collaborating with on a project like this!

With the brightest of blooms and the most romantic of dresses by Win desgins I knew the pressure was on to create something equally as beautiful with the hair.  When I saw Kei from Quill + Oak create  the most beautiful flower combs in a matter of minutes I knew I couldn't look past these adorable blooms as a focal piece for the hair.

Rebecca of Wee Three Sparrows was a master at capturing the vibrancy and playful scenes that transpired in a small studio bursting with wonderful  women, earl grey cupcakes and the most mouth watering meringues I have ever tasted.

One Fine Day Wedding Fair, Sydney.

The One Fine Day wedding fair was held at the newly opened Barangaroo cut away earlier this month, a spectular partially outdoor venue on the edge of Sydney Harbour. The One fine day fair provided a selection of  perfectly curated vendors, featuring your must have staples such as florists, photographers, cake makers and bridal wear as well as a quirky DIY screen printing station where you received your own  take away print.  There was also a collection of  VW camper vans in a rainbow of pastel shades! Tell me who wouldn't want to arrive in a mint green camper van on their wedding day?

The bridal runway show was filled with fun, unique and wearable bridal gowns with refreshing skirt and top combinations, low back gowns and off the shoulder dresses there was nothing ordinary about any of these gowns!

Tickets to the One fine day fair were extremely well priced and you could upgrade to a VIP pass to gain access to the exclusive VIP space with complimentary canapés, cocktails and front row access to the fashion show and a take home  goodie bag.

After a chambord cocktail, an abundance of cake samples and an overload of inspiration I left the One fine Day Fair feeling like I could  get married all over again! And yes I will be getting the VIP ticket next year!

The Next One fine Day fair is in Melbourne May 6 + 7 2017.

Bridal Hair Trends Spring 2017

Get ready to bear those shoulders! The strapless gown now has some serious competition with off the shoulder gowns taking over Spring 2017 runways. Plunging necklines and oversized bows were also wedding dress trends seen on ready-to-wear runways. As any designers focused on bold and elegant designs this season ideal for the modern bride, bridal beauty took a soft and natural approach with effortless hair and minimal makeup featured through the Bridal Market 2017 shows.

Beach waves and boho style still has its place this season though the looks are slightly more refined and polished, proving that even the most dramatic gowns look best with effortless hair.

Tiara's are back! Make sure you pair them with easy effortless hair or sleek pulled back looks. Avoid over accessorizing and allow the Tiara to shine in all its glory!

Braids, knots, twists, buns and romantic versions of the classic chignon are the latest updo trends. With brides keeping the attention of the face with the detail of the braids and knots adding drama at the back.

Light as tulle veils adorned with fresh flowers graced the Marchesa runways. Veils were also accent with embroidery, lace and beading with trains ranged from a shorter church length to a Royal cathedral style.

Marchesa's dreamy dresses were perfectly paired with braided crowns and jewellery to add more dimension and detail to this romantic look.

South Asian Bridal Inspiration

As soon as I heard the founder of AK Makeup Anna Karapetayan would be showcasing some of her signature South Asian bridal hairstyles I knew I had to attend The South Asian bridal beauty workshop! Anna is renowned for her polished hairstyles and diverse skill set that allows her to create beautiful bridal beauty on women of all ethnicities and cultures. I felt extremely fortunate to be a part of Anna's sold out workshop as it will be her last for a while as she awaits the birth of her first child.

Anna demonstrated two different South Asian bridal hairstyles at the workshop the first style (see photo below) is one of her favourite and most requested styles a luxurious side braid draped and decorated with jasmine flowers. In the workshop, Anna shared great tips and advice on how to achieve the glossy flawless finishes that are evident in every Instagram picture she posts!

Some great advice I took from the day was her emphasis on educating her brides on how important their hair preparation in the 24 hours leading up to their event is. Her brides receive detailed instructions about the hair preparation required to achieve the optimum results! With all the excitement the night before the wedding hair prep can be the last thing on your bride's mind. From a stylists perspective trying to achieve the perfect style on wet or unclean hair can be difficult, to say the least!

Educating and explaining to the bride about the importance of hair preparation and providing more specific instructions about the limitations that wet, oily or unprepared hair could potentially have on their wedding day hairstyles is advice that really resonated with me and I will definitely be updating Bridal Hair Collective's preparation guide for all our 2016 brides to be!

The South Asian bridal beauty workshop was presented by Elevating Artists.

The Pastel Dress Party Toronto

We were extremely excited to be a part of The Pastel Dress party's first ever boutique wedding show at theGladstone Hotel last month.
The "party for a cause" event raised awareness for breast cancer whilst immersing guests in Fashion, Beauty and all thing's Bridal. I was among some of Toronto's leading vendors nestled among whimsical lanterns, flowers and gorgeous young ladies modelling The Pastel Dress Party's collection of evening gowns and bridal wear.

Bride to be's and their girlfriends were treated to Makeup touch up’s by Murale making them photo ready as they stepped into the professional selfie photo booths that were on hand! The event was also an opportunity to see The Pastel Dress Party’s newest collection of bridesmaid attire up close and personal, my favourite was their Kimmy Skirt a Tule Tutu skirt available in 27 gorgeous colours, I think i may just order one myself! The night came to a close with guest's feasting on Pink Macaroons and Cotton candy whilst placing bids in the silent auction to hopefully take home a statement piece from Drama Queen or a Michelle Benjamin necklace.

The Pastel Dress Party put on a a fantastic "Party for a cause" with all proceeds going to The Breast Cancer Society of Canada, we hope this is the first of many wedding shows to come!

I loved styling the locks of these talented and fun loving boss ladies Janny and Karen co-founders of The Pastel Dress Party.
